Kalamazoo - Bells Brewery

355 E Kalamazoo Ave

About Us:

On June 11, 1993, Bell's Brewery became the first Michigan brewery to serve beer by the glass to the public. The Eccentric Café offers customers a chance to taste many of Bell's well known beers, as well as small batch brews that are not distributed outside of the pub. Visitors enjoy its warm atmosphere and spacious beer garden and patio. The Cafe also features interesting food, an extensive collection of art and ephemera, as well as live entertainment throughout the week (music, movies, theater, homebrew demonstrations and more).

In the beginning of 2010, renovations to the downtown Kalamazoo facility began with plans to make significant improvements to the existing Café and transform former warehouse space into a separate, dedicated, and state-of-the-art music venue.

The Cafe officially reopened on March 28, 2011, allowing us to host musicians and other entertainment acts from across the country. Renovations also included expanded restrooms, additional seating options, a transformed Beer Garden, a new patio and a new main entry way.

The beer and the atmosphere are amazing -sadly, I haven't had any food there I like. I go for social time; I personally wouldn't recommend having a meal other than snacks. The inside is gorgeously decorated and there are often fun events and local bands. There’s also a pretty cool beer garden out back. Parking is really tricky -there aren’t many spaces in the lot so you have to park on the road or in a lot across the road, a little ways back.

I have to highly recommend this pub. Besides Bell's being one of my all time favorite brews, I make it a point to visit on my way up or back from Detroit to Chicago. You can't go wrong with a burger and beer, but most of the menu items are on the upper/higher quality end of typical bar food. Bell's Cafe does not disappoint. The food quality is excellent, and the beer, is always first class on my list. Try to get there when Hopslam is available, it's amazing!

Bell's has a fantastic atmosphere. The history is proudly displayed on the walls, but Bell's could never be accused of resting on their laurels. The menu is diverse enough to try something new every visit, and the service is top notch.

The workers are wonderful! My husband and I are both disabled. One young man sat us near the front so that we could see our Grandson and his band, Modern Adventures. And he brought a glasses of ice water and a slip for the parking lot. The young man at the door helped us figure out a wy to go home around the flood water. We were very impressed by their kindness.

The experience alone is worth going to bells. The eccentricness is absolutely spot on. I love the beer selection that all has classic bells undertones. My only complaint is that the food could be better. I had a mushroom burger that didn't wow me. The burger was yummy, but the mushrooms and Swiss were nothing to write home about. The side salad tasted like what comes out of a lawn mower, no dressing flavor, no cheese crumbles or anything to make it special. The fries are crisp and super salty. Over 4/5
